    Overview

    Are you an Oracle or SQL Server DBA looking to transition your skills to a NoSQL environment? We are looking for an experienced DBA to join our team and rapidly build familiarity with MarkLogic under the oversight of experienced MarkLogic DBAs. Shortly after joining our team, you will learn to administer MarkLogic databases, including deploying database updates to development environments, troubleshooting database issues, and providing database related support to development teams. You will also manage and administer our MS SQL Server and Oracle databases, including monitoring backups and other scheduled jobs, performance tuning, and troubleshooting database related issues. You will then transition to become primary contact for these responsibilities. Prior knowledge of or experience with MarkLogic is a plus.

    Job Responsibilities and/or Success Factors

    • Analyze database requirements
    • Analyze and determine information needs and elements, database relationships and attributes, proposed manipulation, data flow and storage requirements, and data output and reporting capabilities
    • Apply knowledge of database management systems to coordinate maintenance and changes to databases
    • Test and implement changes and/or new database designs
    • Write logical and physical database descriptions, including location, space, access method, and security requirements
    • Provide direction to programmers and analysts as required to affect changes to database management systems
    • Design, implementation, and maintenance of complex databases, to include managing access methods, access time, and device allocation
    • Database validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods
    • Must have experience with managing of database, overall monitoring of standards and procedures, and integration of systems through database design
    • Demonstrate proficiency in the Agile Scrum methodology
    • Experience with database management concepts and techniques
    • Develop and implement new data management schema
    • Plan and coordinate the development of data structures and access strategies in alignment with business and mission requirements
    • Develop technical designs
    • Coordinate the evaluation and selection of data management tools
    • Plan and manage the migration of databases to new technologies
    • Plan and oversee the installation or reinstallation process and coordinate with specialists in other functional areas to resolve connectivity, compatibility, reliability, security, and related issues
    • Perform a wide range of database administration functions
    • Must be able to run test queries
    • Demonstrate proficiency with production implementation and support experience with databases on Linux/Unix platforms
    • Experience with Oracle RAC clustered database and Oracle Physical Data Guard preferred

    Required skills and experience include

    • Eight years of relevant experience in database management and applicable Appendix B certification
    • Master’s degree preferred in Business, Engineering, Management Sciences, Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related discipline with two years of relevant experience in database administration

    OR

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Management Sciences, Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related discipline with four years of relevant experience in database administration

    OR

    • Associate’s degree in Business, Engineering, Management Sciences, Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related discipline with six years of relevant experience in database administration

    Preferred skills

    • MarkLogic
    • No SQL 
    • NoSQL certification/experience required
    • Must have experience with data mining, storage, and warehousing methods
